Just Begin

Alexander Graham Bell said, “All glory comes from daring to
begin.”

This statement rings true (no pun intended) for many of my
patients and coaching clients.

It’s that first step – the act of beginning – that can be
the problem.

There are many excuses and rationalizations for failing to
begin work on a project, a goal, an idea, or even the
improvement of one’s health.

There are those who say they are going to begin, but first they
need to do research. They proceed to research, research, and
research.  Yet, the project never gets off the ground.

Is research important?  Undoubtedly, yes. But there comes a
time when research becomes “analysis paralysis.” This term
is often used in real estate investing circles. In that context,
analysis paralysis occurs when an investor analyzes a property
so much that eventually he loses the deal or talks himself out
of the deal.

The best way to begin is to understand the vocabulary used for
your particular project.

I have read many “Dummies” and “Idiot’s Guide” books.
These books are a great starting point. They are filled with a
ton of information, usually presented in a manner that is easy
to understand.  They open your eyes to new words, definitions,
and important points regarding your subject of interest.

These are the books I began with when I started learning about
wealth building. Once I got the basics down, I progressed to
specific niche books about my topic of interest.

We all have to start at the beginning. We all have to
understand basic concepts and understand the terminology used
for what we want to learn about or do. This rule applies whether
we are talking about dieting or finances or any other subject.

Do you remember the movie “A Field of Dreams” with Kevin
Costner? He was motivated by hearing someone (he didn’t know
who) say “If you build it, he will come.” Nike urges us to
“Just do it.” There are innumerable references to the idea
that the only way to fulfill a dream is to begin.

I will end this short broadcast by reminding you that…

“There is no time like the present.”

Have a great week.
