Flu Fighters
I believe there is a direct correlation between health and
wealth.
If you are wealthy, you can afford to purchase excellent health
insurance, pay for procedures which are not covered by
insurance, buy high-quality food, and take the time to exercise
and de-stress.
What decreases the value of your wealth?
The answer is sickness and/or pain. Even wealthy folks can
experience pain and sickness.
If you’ve been watching the news or listening to the radio, I
am sure you have heard (ad nauseam) about H1N1 virus, aka swine
flu, and the regular flu.
I’m sure you have also heard much discussion about
vaccinations for both flu strains. I will not take up your time
with a discussion of the pros and cons of these vaccines, as
that is a matter between you and your doctor.
I want to give you some information about how to support your
immune system.
Actually, the idea for this broadcast came from an article in
the Wall Street Journal. I don’t read this newspaper all the
time, but a certain headline caught my attention. It was
information regarding the flu. I am not sure when the Wall
Street Journal began to have a Health & Wellness section, but
obviously they too seem to believe that health and wealth are
related.
I want to share the list of flu-fighting supplements with you.
To read the full article, please refer to the November 24, 2009,
issue of the Wall Street Journal.
The following supplements are recommended for fighting flu:
• Vitamin D, found in milk, orange juice, salmon, and tuna
• Selenium, found in Brazil nuts, turkey, and canned tuna in
oil
• Vitamin A, found in liver, spinach, carrots, pumpkin, and
other yellow fruits and vegetables
• Zinc, found in oysters, Alaskan king crab, and pork
shoulder
• Vitamin C, found in oranges and other citrus fruits, red
peppers, and broccoli
• Vitamin B6, found in potatoes, bananas, and garbanzo beans
If you do not eat a lot of these foods, you may wish to
consider using supplements from your local health/nutrition
store. Before you begin any supplement regimen, please speak
with your doctor, especially if you are taking medication. Keep
in mind that certain supplements (and certain foods) can
increase or decrease the potency of your medicine.
In addition to proper nutrition, exercise, sufficient sleep,
and frequent hand-washing are excellent ways to decrease your
chances of getting the flu.
To Your Health!
