Not all doctors and insurance companies are bad. But, as you may know, there are many that are questionable. Welcome to my website. My name is Dr. Michael J. Kaye, and I am the author of the Accident Documentation Kit. It is very important to keep detailed written records of these interactions and of everything pertaining to your accident. 

You MUST document all of your appointments; communications with your employer, doctors, and insurance company; the activities of your life since you have been injured; and all expenses related to your recovery. This information will be necessary for insurance claims and if you have to defend yourself to your employer or in court.

I can't stress enough – one of the key points I have learned over the years:

"If it is not documented, it was never done"!

I do not mean to imply that most doctors are unethical (many, as myself, have impeccable values and truly care about their patients), but it doesn't pay to hide our heads in the sand.

Here are a few examples of things I've learned that I will tell you about in the kit, regarding how the system works and why it is so important to document and to choose a good health team (which is another process my kit will help you navigate).

FACT – Having insurance is truly a blessing. But dealing with insurance companies is often a HUGE HASSLE. They may misplace your "Explanation of Benefits" or tell you they can't find you in their system. Again, you must keep good records. If you cannot back up your claims, the insurance companies might use any excuse to pay you the least that they can.

FACT – In the worker’s comp and personal injury system, the insurance company has the right by law to send you for an Independent Medical Examination (IME). The insurance company designates a doctor to perform an examination, and the doctor receives payment from the company in the range of $150 to $500. It would appear that the IME doctor has a financial incentive to report to the insurance company that care is no longer needed, just as the company has a financial incentive to deny further care. Scary and sad, but true.

FACT – Sometimes those entitled to an insurance claim or a lawsuit judgment lose out simply because they didn't realize what all needed to be charted or they failed to report changes in their daily activities that seemed insignificant or were embarrassing (such as incontinence which can occur after an auto accidents).

FACT - Choosing the type of doctor(s) to best help you can be one of the most confusing and difficult decisions you will have to make, and most accident victims require a team of health professionals.

You can see just in these four examples that there is a LOT to consider and to document. And it is so-o-o easy to let it slide when your life is already hard enough to deal with.
